Our New Pre-Loved Uniform Shop is Now Live!
Scouting exists to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society.
At 1st Hurstpierpoint Scout Group, we bring this purpose to life right here in the heart of Mid Sussex. Formed in 1909, our Group has a rich history of serving the local community. Operating from our modern headquarters on Brown Twins Road—and taking full advantage of our close proximity to the South Downs—we offer fun, friendship, and outdoor adventure to over 150 young people across our Beaver Colonies, Cub Packs, and Scout Troops, alongside our partnered Knights Explorer Scout Unit.
Above all, we pride ourselves on providing a place to belong. Every young person, regardless of their background or ability, is welcomed into an inclusive, supportive environment where they can truly be themselves. Through activities like camping, hiking, swimming, and canoeing, we challenge our young people to step outside their comfort zones. We focus on teaching essential skills for life, helping individuals grow in confidence, develop teamwork capabilities, and discover strengths that a traditional classroom simply cannot give them.
As Scouts, we are guided by these core values:
Integrity: We act with integrity; we are honest, trustworthy, and loyal.
Respect: We have self-respect and respect for others.
Care: We support others and take care of the world in which we live.
Belief: We explore our faiths, beliefs, and attitudes.
Co-operation: We make a positive difference; we co-operate with others and make friends.
Everyone involved in running and supporting scouting at 1st Hurstpierpoint is required to act in accordance with the key policies of The Scout Association, including national Policy, Organisation and Rules (POR). These National Rules and local policies provide the essential framework that allows us to deliver safe, high-quality, and inclusive scouting, fully aligned with our purpose and values.
Our specific Group policies are listed below. They are all equally vital to the safe running of our Group—no order of importance or priority is implied.
